Floriferously

I love poinsettias.  I don't dare have them in the house with all our fur babies, but they are so pretty.  I thought about cropping out the background, but this is 2020, so the masked shoppers in the background are very apropos.

Disgustedly

It appears someone was having a "case of the 2020s."  I saw this in the parking ramp as I was walking into work today.  They broke their Christmas star wand and everything.  Hopefully, their day got better after this throwdown.

Threateningly

Dad would have fit in just fine with 2020, or a bank robbery, or an ax murderer.

Hairy

Desperate times call for desperate measures.  Due to the Covid19 lockdown, I had to pull out the hair clippers.

Not only did I shear my husband of his excess locks, but now the birds have some nice nesting material.

I'm not a hairstylist.  I don't even play one on tv.  But I did stay at a Holiday Inn once.

Picklelessly

It's been over a month now since my last pandemic grocery store report and groceries I normally buy at Target have been depleted.  I've been shopping at Sam's Club because I don't have to wait in check-out lines there.

Today I decided to give Target a shot.  There were still parts of the store with bare shelves, but at least they have toilet paper and paper towels again and it was not nearly as bad as a month ago.  They also have whiteboards at the front entrance that let you know right away if a hot ticket item is in stock or not.

The subject of today's image had me scratching my head though.  Why on earth was there a run on pickles?  I just don't understand people sometimes.

The check-out aisles have changed dramatically.  There is now Plexi-glass between the cashier and the shopper.  And they also did something I really, really love.  They cordoned off the individual registers into one line and an employee directs you to the next available cashier.  No more getting stuck in a slow line behind someone!  I told the cashier they should have it like this all the time.  She said some people really hate it, but I don't understand why.  I, for one, was really pleased with the new checkout process.

Vacantly

Finishing up week 3 with just a skeleton crew working onsite to keep everyone going who is working from home.

Isolatedly

As I was growing up, my family always tried to find humor, even in difficult times.

Best Buy headquarters employees are working from home during the pandemic and the last couple days the electronic billboard in the Hub has been showing today's blog pic.

Even the billboards are in self-isolation from the rest of the world.

Pandemically

The company I work for leases space in Best Buy's corporate headquarters.  Today they were testing company-wide telecommuting in response to the Covid-19 coronavirus.  What a difference!  The place was a ghost town except for a diminished lessee population.  Normally this area would be hopping around the lunch hour.

After work, I decided to try my luck at Target.  The long lines were gone, but there were still numerous signs of hoarding, as people either panic or try to make a buck on the resale of goods.

The picture below shows the frozen chicken section today.  Completely ridiculous, as there is no need for this type of behavior.

The poor Target employees were trying to restock areas as fast as they could.  Here's what I saw:

  • No toilet paper
  • 2/3 of canned goods, gone
  • A small supply of bread available
  • cooking oil and baking supplies 2/3 gone
  • store brand nuts and trail mixes gone except for 2 bags and a jar
  • kitty litter mostly gone (good thing I bought the CatGenie)
  • ground meat, gone (but steaks still available)
  • almost all luncheon meat gone
  • almost all frozen meat gone, except for shrimp and some steaks
  • half and half, gone
  • most milk, gone
  • most almond milk, gone
  • zero butter - including sticks, bricks and tubs
On the way home I was contemplating life, the universe and everything.  Even with less food in the store, we still have more than a lot of people around the world.  I am grateful for everything I do have and will trust God for the rest.

Precautionary

It's that time of year again.  This is the third year documenting the giant Peeps bunny on my morning commute.  Only this year,  I laughed out loud as soon as I saw it.  Definitely a sign of the times.
