Tenty

Lazy Daisy with a wide eye for the mamarazzi.

I'd never heard of the word "tenty" before, since it's probably limited to Scotland, but the definition is very appropriate for Miss Daisy.  Definition courtesy of Merriam-Webster's unabridged dictionary. Well worth the small annual fee I pay to learn new words like "tenty."

Covertly

My dad's sister and husband.  Apparently, my aunt didn't like having her picture taken.  Circa 1965.

Beauties

I can't imagine going for a hike in a dress, but they look cute doing it.  Circa 1950.

When you're just trying to enjoy a slice of company birthday cake and the paparazzi start clicking away.

Lackadaisically

Ladies used to have rip-roaring parties back in the day.

Astonishingly

Kitchen of yesteryear.  Freezing time, that's one of the things I like most about photography.

I also think that the surprised look on her face is a hoot.

 Another great picture of mom.

Parentally

This is my mom's dad and his foster son.  Grandpa and grandma were only able to have one child, my mom, but they loved kids so much that they took on the responsibility of a foster child after my mom was grown.  Happy Father's Day to all the different kinds of fathers out there, including foster dads.

Uniformly

Thinking about dad this Father's Day weekend.  I doubt he brought a vehicle on base while in boot camp, so I don't know who this car belongs to.

Goofery

Mom didn't become goofy over time.  Mom was goofy her whole life.

Lady

Mom's cousin and also roommate at the time of this photo.   Circa 1950.

Not exactly sure what she has in her hands.  Possibly the start of a braided rug?

She's been gone for a number of years now, but she was a part of my life from my birth to her death.  When I was very young, she taught me how to turn the light switch on and off, much to my mom's chagrin.

Her familiar greeting of "How are you doing, laaaaaady." gave me the title for today.

Glossy

Went out with a friend for dinner and afterwards we were able to take in an impromptu lowrider car show in the parking lot.  There were at least 20 fancy bouncy cars in attendance.

Genteelly

I don't recall ever seeing this picture of mom before.  She looks so pretty and her hair looks so different parted down the middle.  I love, love, love this.

The scenic Dalles of the St. Croix boat trip in the 1940s.  35¢ for adults and 20¢ for kids!

Still operating today, the cost is currently $22.99 for adults and $11.99 for children.

Piggies

Devo pigs say “Whip it. Whip it good!”
This is what happens when your computer goes on the fritz and you have to post your blog through your phone.  Piggy judgment.

Inseparability

I love this pic!  Reminds me of something you would see in a Norman Rockwell painting.  Circa late 1940s, early 1950s.

Cottony

Mom on the right and her younger cousin on the left.  She looks so pretty in her fancy-collared dress and her pearl necklace.

Ringy-dingy

Times were tough during the Great Depression.  People did whatever they had to do to make money.  One of the things my grandparents did was to run their town's telephone switchboard out of their house.

While my grandmother took care of the daily housework, my mom's sole chore was to run the switchboard.  My mom started doing this at a young age and sometimes wasn't equipped to deal with impatient townsfolk who would make snide comments when she didn't connect the calls fast enough.  Implying that my mom should be doing chores instead of running a switchboard.  My grandmother gave the impatient callers quite a tongue-lashing for getting on my mom's case and tartly informed them that the switchboard WAS my mom's chores.

I believe mom took these pictures when they were getting ready to sell the switchboard equipment in the 1960s.

Thoughtfully

Little mom, contemplating her life choices.  Her grandmother in the background, making sure little one doesn't get out of hand.

Uninhibitedly

I haven't blogged this image before because it's severely out of focus.  However, as the years go by after a loved one has passed and new images are no longer forthcoming, I'll take what I can get.

All I had to do was tell Mom to act goofy for the camera and she always obliged.
