Natty

I don't know who this guy is, but boy is he fancy!  That suit!  That hat!  Those socks!  He could easily be a model for the roaring 20s.

Campy

We made S'mores in the fireplace this evening.  Reminds me of the church campouts of my youth.

Sophisticatedly

In yesterday's blog, my grandfather was nonchalantly displaying my grandmother's wedding ring on his finger.

If I had to bet, I would say this is my grandparent's wedding day picture.  This is the only picture I've seen with him wearing a top hat.  Fancy stuff compared to his normal garb.  And that fancy hat my grandmother is wearing looks pretty special too.

It's hard to tell in this picture because the sun is shining on their hands, but it looks like he still has the ring on his finger and she's not wearing a ring yet.  Just look at that smug look on his face.  I wish I could have met him.

Jaunty

At first glance, my grandfather looks so bored, waiting for who-knows-what to happen.  But if you look closely, you will see a woman's engagement ring displayed prominently on his hand.  I laughed when I first noticed that.  The sneaky romantic devil!

Jubilee

After some sleuthing, I have determined that this picture was taken in Junction City, KS most likely sometime between 1946 and 1955.

I also found that Fort Riley in Junction City was home to the 1st Infantry Mechanized Division and a frequent stop of General Wainwright.  If you can see the "Eisenhower Drugs" sign behind the front tank, it was run by Dwight D Eisenhower's brother, Roy, and then Roy's widow after his death.

I'm pretty sure my uncle took this picture because he was a photographer in Junction City for decades and this is an 8 x 10 print, which would have been a luxury back then.  There's also a possibility that his wife is on top of one of the tanks, but I can't be sure.  Purely conjecture on my part.

Dillydally

I'm guessing this is one of my ancestors, but I don't know which one.  I like the cool old car, but it ain't got nothing on that guy's boots.  I wonder how long it took to lace those puppies up every day!

Algidity

It can get a little chilly at City Hall.  Be sure to bring warm mittens.

 Well, there's the problem.

Broody

Same uncle as the funny blog from the other day - just younger and more brooding.

Diminutively

Looking through pictures and coming across pics of my trip to see my bestie after her husband died.  This is my bestie's lovely dollhouse.

Tomfoolery

My uncle was a truck driver.  I'm not sure of the story behind this image, but it's sure funny.  Possibly a promo piece for the company?  It's a glossy 8x10 picture, so must have been some sort of company promo.  Like, "We're Britton Motor Company and our drivers are professional, even when pulled over by the police."

Dewie

My friend reminded me that we did a practice photoshoot 11 years ago today.  I remember it being bitter cold and I made him stand in a snowdrift for these shots.  He didn't wear gloves and had tennis shoes on; by the time we were done, he was a popsicle.  He deserves the Good Sport Award.

Pudgy

I dare you to guess what kind of animal this is supposed to be, according to the artist who created it.

Yucky

This looks like a giant, petrified furball that some Kittysaurus acked up.

Deafeningly

When your sassy husband intentionally walks through while you're trying to take a picture so you just make him part of the blog.  That face!  So sassy!

I think he secretly wishes he could have this wall of boom boxes.  The joke would be on him if they worked and suddenly turned on.

Representatively

As a silhouette, you can't really tell the scale of this lily pad sculpture, but it is quite large.  I think they should put a giant frog on top of it.

Edit: My bad.  I pulled up a picture of the artist's plaque and this is actually a "stylized oak tree."

The beautiful thing about art is that it's open to interpretation.  I still think it needs a giant frog on top.

Ladies

Mom and dad went on numerous diets over the years.  This was a "before" picture from 1973.  Happy birthday in heaven, mom.

Carefully

It's going to take a lot of work to untangle the mess that was 2020.  Here's to a better 2021!
