Stupid Asian Beetles
No matter how many I get rid of, there are always more! I thought they would go away once winter arrived, but they seem to have taken up residence in our house. Yuck!

Techie Corner
Most of my object close-ups in 2015-2016, including this one, are hand-held with a zoom lens instead of a macro lens. Macro lenses take more time to set up.
The rest of the setup includes: on-camera flash bounced off a low ceiling, an old-fashioned slide light box for the surface and a yellow file folder for the background. You don't need anything fancy to take these kinds of images.

We adopted a lovely little girl yesterday from Last Hope, Inc. during their adoption day at Petco in Apple Valley.

Flocked Depot
I took 2 1/2 minutes out of my morning commute today to take a few pics.
While snow isn't always the most pleasant to drive through, especially during rush hours, it does make for a beautiful landscape.

Rocky Mountain
This isn't the first time I've blogged the piece of Amethyst that I dug out of the tailings pile of the Amethyst mine in Thunder Bay, Ontario. But I think it's so pretty that it can use a fresh perspective now and then.

Melon Moon
Yeah, yeah. I know it's been stylized so far that it doesn't even look like a photograph anymore. Sometimes I like to push it over the top, just because. Also, I've been thinking lately that the moon looks like a giant melon. This image accentuates the "meloness."
Techie Corner
I had someone ask how I did this, so I'm adding some techie notes and a progression image.
1. out of camera - it was a foggy night 12/27/2015 and I thought it would look cool. Didn’t turn out as good as I had hoped.
2. Lightroom - shadow, highlight and tone adjustments. added extra clarity to the moon.
3. Perfect Effects 9 - I honestly don’t remember what all I did in here. lol
4. Cropping.
5. Photoshop - filter > stylize > find edges
