Christmas Turkey

31 Days of Christmas – Day Thirty

I'm not sure which is the bigger turkey in this image.  My uncle was always cracking jokes, so it could be him.

Colorful 50s Christmas

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-nine

My aunt trying to look nonchalant next to an extremely tall Poinsettia.

Techie Corner
I had to do some restoration on this one.  Color photographs in the 1950s were very expensive and only some of the prints have aged well.  I have some that look pristine, but this one needed help, as you can see from the original below.  Scanned with the Epson V600.

Lord, Make Me an Instrument

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-eight

This is one of my mom's leftover Christmas cards that has donned the outside of a mail caddy for as long as I can remember.  It's something I grew up seeing, but not seeing.  Until today, when I found it in a box.

This old, yellowed and beat-up card with a beautiful message.  It's how my mom tried to live her life and a nice reminder of her at this time of year.

El Gato

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-seven

El Gato was a gift from my 8th & 9th grade Spanish teacher.  Her husband was from Cuba, and, if I remember right, these handmade baked clay ornaments were purchased during one of their trips to Cuba.

Christmas in the 40s

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-six

My grandparents' Christmas tree in the 1940s looks more like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree than something we typically see today.

Scanned with Epson V600.

Christmas M&Ms

31 Days of Christmas – Day Sixteen

Look what I found at the bottom of a tote.  I really need to get out and take some images this weekend.

Techie Corner
I was tired tonight and settled for an iPhone image.  I am so not impressed with the picture quality of the iPhone 7.  The bayonet mount on my DSLR lens broke last week, so I'm stuck using a telephoto lens until replacements parts come.  Tonight I decided to take the easy way out.

Getting into the Holiday Spirit

31 days of Christmas – Day Eight

Throwback Thursday to Christmastime 2004; when I asked my mom to look silly, and she willingly obliged.  She was always game for silliness.

Today marks 6 years since her silliness stopped.

Christmas at Northwestern

31 days of Christmas – Day Four

We went to Northwestern's Christmas concert last night and the music was fabulous.  They have an awesome orchestra!  This is one of the four conductors present.  I don't think I've ever seen four conductors in one concert before.

Techie Corner
High ISO photography.  I'm not a fan.  But, it was either that or nothing.  I took some rapid fire shots when we were able to stand during the audience participation numbers.

31 days of Christmas – Day Three

At least, until Angel runs away and the wings fall off.

Christmas Photography

31 days of Christmas - Day One

Christmas is my favorite time of year!!

This wasn't the way I had planned this image.  I wanted more of the "magic" from the Christmas tree lights, so I decided I would take some without flash.  But when I tried to move the ornament to a different spot in preparation, I accidentally dropped it and half of it exploded into pieces.  Oh well.

Considering how many old/antique cameras I have, I could decorate the tree with real cameras, if I wanted to.  *snort*

As seen in 2000.  I thought the reflections were interesting, like the road went right through the building.  Scanned negative via Epson V600.

Grandma's Jelly Jar

Before there were 50 different kinds of jellies and jams on supermarket shelves, people made their own.  And jars like this would make it readily accessible for breakfast toast.
